Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of establishing a mining claim including:

identifying survey equipment

reading and interpreting maps

drawing survey maps

identifying hazards

applying environmental constraints

disposing of environmentally sensitive fluids and materials

applying operational safety requirements

maintaining records

demonstrates completion of establishing a mining claim that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing surveying using appropriate survey equipment

identifying the boundaries of the claim from the description and diagram

taking bearings and measurements to establish and mark the corners of the claim

drawing up the description and diagram of the claim according to mining registrar’s requirement

serving the claim notice


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in establishing a mining claim through:

accessing, interpreting and applying legislative, and organisation requirements and procedures for:

completing an application for a minerals claim

obtaining machinery permits

accessing, interpreting and applying mineral field maps and information

accessing, interpreting and applying survey map requirements and design

identifying and applying boundary marking methods

applying basic surveying methods and equipment
